Garki’s roofs are often older than the signboard at the gate. Houses from an earlier generation of the capital sit beside small offices and lock-up shops. Gutters run along party walls. When they overflow, it is not always clear who owns the outlet. A leak quote that starts with a new sheet and never asks about that shared gutter will miss the water.

Shared outlets and older sheets
A party wall means two roofs can drain toward one downpipe, or toward none. The stain in your top-floor room may start on the neighbour’s side of the wall, in a channel you cannot clear without permission. Say so. A repair that stops at your eaves and leaves the common outlet blocked will fail on the next rain.
Older houses here tend to carry patched metal: short sheets, ridges that have been pointed more than once, fasteners that have backed out through years of hot afternoons and wet months. Abuja does not give those fasteners a coastal salt bath the way Lagos does. It does give them a long dry season full of dust and then one wet season that finds every loose cap. If the sheet is thin at the corrugations, replacement is a conversation. If the sheet is sound and three screws have enlarged their holes, the conversation is smaller. You do not have to decide that before you write. You do have to say what you can see.
Shops at the front of a Garki plot add people. A gutter that dumps onto a pavement or into a shop entrance is not only a ceiling problem. It is how customers meet the roof. Note whether the stained room is a bedroom, a store, or a place that trades all week.
The season, without a new number

- Did the leak start on the first rain after the dry months, or has it run for several wet seasons?
- Can someone reach the eaves from your compound without crossing the next plot?

What the form needs that a slogan does not
Area of the slope if you know it, number of storeys, and a photograph of the party wall gutter from your side. If you cannot see the neighbour’s half, say that.
